National Camps for the Blind
National Camps for the Blind® is a subsidiary program of Christian Record Services. The Canadian National Camps for the Blind project began in 1972 at Foothills Camp in Bowden, Alberta. The camping program has been such a success that we now operate two dozen camps at various locations across the United States and Canada. Since its organization, over 43,000 campers have attended these unusual camps.
Each camp is scheduled at a well-equipped site, chosen especially for the standard of excellence and geographical location.
Committed staff and counselors are trained to meet the needs of our blind campers. Medical personnel are on duty 24 hours a day. Emergency care is available when needed.
The camps are FREE – thanks to gifts from generous donors – to those who are between the ages of 9 and up (the record is) and whose corrected vision is no better than 20/200.

Winter Camps
In February, National Camps for the Blind holds one of its most unique events of the year-Winter Camp. Campers come from all over North America, as far as Nova Scotia and even Texas. This length to which campers go in order to attend is a testament to how special this week is. Many of our campers have never encountered snow before, and in this week they are given opportunities many of them would never have thought possible! Imagine, a blind camper from Texas learning to snowboard! Well, that’s what Carlos did! Snowboarding is just one of the amazing experiences to be had in this winter wonderland. Other activities include:
- Downhill Skiing
- Cross-country Skiing
- Sledding
- Snowmobiling
- Tubing
- Arts and Crafts
- Indoor swimming
- Go-carting (that’s right, go-carting)
- Ice Skating
