Services

All who are blind, legally blind (20/200 with corrective lenses), or have physical impairments that prevent them from holding reading material are eligible for the following free services:

  • Subscription Magazines are available in braille, large print, audio cassette .
  • Full-Vision Books combine braille and print, enabling blind parents to read to their sighted children and sighted parents help their blind children learn to read braille.
  • The Lending Library lends more than 2,000 volumes in braille and audio cassette. (expanding to include CD and MP3 format)
  • Gift Bibles and Study Guides are available in braille, large print, and audio cassette.
  • National Camps for the Blind are operated throughout North America. Including West, Central and Eastern Canada!
  • Scholarship Assistance is given on a limited basis to blind young people trying to obtain a college education.

Personal visitations

Whether in their homes, in hospitals, by mail or over the phone, CRS representatives make an effort to keep in contact with those who use one or more services. A helping hand, a little moral support or even a few words of encouragement can go a long way!

In Canada, more than 15 district representatives are employed by Christian Record Services, Inc. Approximately 8,000 blind people are encouraged by our representatives’ personal visits, our free publications and other services. District representatives offer free services from CRS/NCB, provide encouragement, read mail, and at times, act as a referral service providing information regarding other agencies that offer assistance to the visually impaired.

Lending Library

Christian Record Services offers a lending library featuring more than 2,000 titles of reading materials in braille, large print or on audio cassette. It operates on a 30-day loan basis. Catalogues in large print and on cassette are available upon request.

Subscription Magazines

Christian Record:
An adult magazine with a variety of devotional and inspirational features. Issued monthly.

Christian Record Talking Magazine:
A magazine including a variety of talking features: nature, adventure, informative interviews relevant to current events. Issued bimonthly.

The Student:
Daily helps for the serious Bible student. For adults. Issued monthly in braille and on cassette.

Young and Alive:
A magazine featuring articles on travel, culture, science, social guidance, humour and devotion for teenagers and young adults. Issued bimonthly in braille and in large print.

Lifeglow:
An adult journal that brightens, inspires and entertains. Issued bimonthly in large print.

Encounter:
For late teens and adults, a magazine featuring sermons, answers to Bible questions and in-depth guides to Bible doctrine. Issued bimonthly on cassette.

Full-vision Books:
Developed by Christian Record in the early 1960′s. Unique books (with braille on one page and print and pictures on the opposite page) making it possible for blind parents to read stories to their sighted children. A set of 12 full-vision books is being developed.

National Camps for the Blind

An excellent camping program for the blind which came to Canada in 1972, helps blind individuals accept their impairment while challenging them to achieve greater self-confidence. Approximately 250 totally and legally blind children and adults attend camps across Canada annually.

Summer camp activities are educational as well as recreational and include horseback riding, water sports, archery, canoing, crafts, and many other camp-related activities. Free: ages 9-99…
